If you enjoy writing and are good at it, then you may want to consider freelance writing. There are plenty of jobs too. Build a portfolio. The bigger, the better.

Do research online to find what would interest you most. Finding a niche that you like/enjoy makes the whole process of finding the right freelance writing job easier to obtain. I will include a link below that will be a helpful place for you to start if it’s freelance writing you’re interested in.

Blog Content Creator

This is another sector for freelance writing. This is where you will create content for blog owners. Many bloggers have active blogs and need to hire out some writers, to help lessen their load. And there are so many blogs out there, with many owners looking for those that can create content.

You would create content regularly, on many topics. Using your skill for writing, without having actually to maintain a blog it’s a win-win for everyone!

Email Marketing

Email marketing campaigns are essential to blogs. They capture visitor’s emails, reach out to them so that they can learn what their customers are looking for. Companies hire freelance writers so that their campaign can be well written and useful to the blogger.

Writers are needed for companies and blogs, who want to send out newsletters to their readers/customers. Weekly or bi-weekly newsletters help everyone keep in touch. Especially with the reader/customer. If you love to write, you’ll have found your job! Plenty of writing to be done working with newsletters.  The best part, you write them around your schedule!

Website Content

Website owners have been known to hire freelance writers, to write content for their many sites.  The content you write can be exciting.  Covering a variety of topics, or possibly a few.

I have been checking into this myself.  I found one place in the US that will pay you $31 an hour to write content!  And I can do that writing, working from my home!

Blogging is very popular, especially with a stay at home mom, disabled individuals, etc.  It can be done at home, pretty much from become your own boss today, work from homeanywhere.  And you work it around your schedule.  I wish I had started this years ago.

I started my blog.  This allows me to work as little or as much I can.  I work around my schedule.  And I can write my content, with freelancing you’re writing what someone wants you to write.  Blogging about something you enjoy, and then turning it into a source of income–personally, there is nothing else like it.

I also deal with more than writing content.  Once I have an article published, I then promote that post on many different forms of social media platforms.  I am continually maintaining my blog as well as updating it.  I won’t lie, it is a lot of work, but I love it!  It’s riskier than freelance writing, but if your dedicated and apply yourself, you can take off in so many different directions!  That will may earn you a full-time income.

Here are some of the ways you can earn an income with your blog:

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is the most popular way in which to make a full-time income with your blog.  With affiliate marketing, you will promote products on your blog, to your readers, and when they buy a product using a link from your blog, you make money.

Think of all the many products you can promote.  If your blog is on Body Building — you can promote supplements, or shakes, even equipment, and on and on.  And because your readers begin to trust your opinion, they’ll click on your link and buy the product.  You need not do anything else.

There are a lot of successful bloggers that make five figures or more a month!  That’s insane.  I know a few bloggers that are making a lucrative income with their blogs, so I know this can be done.  Last holiday season, I have seen first hand just how promising affiliate marketing can be.  The possibilities are endless.

Display Advertising

You can display advertisements on your blog pages, and you can earn money each time a visitor visits your blog.  All I had to do was place an ad on a page and leave it.  Visitors do the rest.

I started out with Google AdSense.  It’s easy to use, and you don’t have to have a lot of traffic coming to your blog.  But it doesn’t hurt either, to have a steady flow of traffic. LOL

I put ads on another blog of mine last summer (2018). I honestly didn’t know what I was doing.  I thought I had done it wrong and just left it.  I even forgot about it till around the 2018 holiday season.  I had made money, with AdSense ads placed on only four pages.  I was stoked!  It wasn’t going to make me rich, but it will pay for me to renew my domain names when their due. This summer.  I now have them on most of my pages on that blog.

You can also go directly to companies and work with them by placing their ads.  The bigger the readership you have with your blog, the more these companies will pay.  They know that thousands of readers will see their ad on your blog.  Big money, right there!

Freelance Proofreading

I know some women that do this in their spare time.   They start by checking over documents/content to make sure there are no mistakes. If you have what it takes, then freelance proofreading may be the perfect chance for you to work from home.

Since most work on what’s called a freelance basis, you can choose when you work and how much you will be paid.  Not bad, huh?

Health/Life Coaching

With many people looking into getting healthy and fit, there is a big demand for coaches that can help guide them on their journey to fitness and health.  It is a rapidly growing industry.

As a coach, you can work for a company, or do so work on a freelance basis.  You will check in with your clients, give sound advice, and encourage where encouragement is needed — a desire to help others it what will make this field a good one for you.

Local Marketing Consultant

I did this for a former retail chain I worked for years ago.  I would go out into the community and meet with community store owners.  We’d share information and get the word out on what’s going on with your local businesses.  Whether it be sales, fashion shows, community events, vendor rallies, etc., it was my job to make sure everyone knew about it.

I would pass out coupons, especially those that targeted military personnel, healthcare professional, or education teachers, to name only a few.  It’s what brought people into our store.  Whether it be for the fashion show or a new line for the season, it brought people into the store, where sales would then go up.

Managing Facebook Ads for Local Business

Many local businesses do not know how to take advantage of Facebook Ads.  Become an asset to any company by managing their business on Facebook.  You know how Facebook can target users with ads to specific geographic area, gender, age, as well as interests.  With over 2 billion users every day, why would you not take advantage of Facebook ads?

Selling Products

Selling your products on your blog takes a little more work, but it is a great way to make money with your blog.  Maybe you don’t have a physical product, but you have e-books. It’s inexpensive to make, but it can bring in more money than you’d realize.

Maybe you have something you can offer to your reader that will teach them how to become a better writer, to become more productive, or better organized.  You can have lessons, that you can charge for.  Give away that first lesson for free, then once their hooked, they may be more willing to pay for the following lessons.

Promise me that what you offer will help people.  Back in November 2018, I had joined a page teaching you to rock your goals for 2019, all they did was take my money.  I got one email from them, and that was six months ago.  That blogger has lost my respect, as well as any trust.  Word gets around quick amongst fellow bloggers, and I do believe that gal no longer blogs.  It appears she’s taken her blog down.  You want to be careful; you want to gain your reader’s trust.  Those are the readers that will become repeat visitors.

More established bloggers can take this route, and it is an excellent source of revenue.  Sponsorship is where the blogger will write sponsored posts promoting the sponsor’s products or services.  Besides being lucrative, bloggers may also be compensated with free products.

A blogger whose blog is popular due to their niche can have a big influence on their readers.

Sell Your Photo’s Online

Do you love taking pictures?  Do you take a lot of pictures?  Did you know that places like iStock and Shutter Stock will pay you to use your photos as stock photos?

What better way to be able to stay home with your kids and still make money?

Social Media Marketing

Social Media Marketing is one of the stay at home mom jobs, promising the most opportunities.  Who doesn’t use social media?

Posting on Instagram that captivates your audience, or maybe a collection of ideas-visually appealing on Pinterest, these skills can turn into a job, that can be done working from home, also earning you a full-time income.

Brands need to have a strong social presence.  Companies hire social media managers to make their brand have a strong social media presence as well to help run their social media pages, which results in assisting them in building an online presence.

Social Media Posting

Creating that perfect post for Facebook,  Pinterest, or Instagram is very important to companies wanting to be noticed.  As well as engaging with their customers.

As a social media marketer, your job is to create and publish posts.  You’ll be creating content that stands out, for all kinds of social media pages.

Building Profiles for Brands

This goes hand in hand with social media.  Another job of a social media manager is to make sure brands have an up-to-date social media that engages fans and consumers.

Online profiles are as important as social media posting.  As mentioned, they go hand and hand.  Having one without the other is usually unheard of.

Teach or Tutor Online

Teaching and tutoring online is a rapidly growing field.  It is considered to be the future of education.  Times have been changing and will continue to improve, so we must learn to adapt and start thinking outside of the box.

Did you know that online English classes are in the greatest demand?.  Start by teaching English to children in other countries.

A lot of companies are continually looking for teachers to hire — especially companies in China.

I’m going out on a limb here to say that teaching Spanish would be another lucrative field for a stay at home moms to check out as well.

And More

There is much more work from home jobs online.  Do a little research.  If one of the above sounds right for you, go for it.  If you’re not sure, then research it.  Whatever you decide to go with, if they ask for money, I would leary and most likely move on.  As far as I know, there should be no reason for you to pay, so that you can work from home.  Be cautious, because unfortunately, there are a lot of scams online.  The most popular are those that promise you they can have you making four figures overnight,  or within a week.  If that were the case, many other people would be doing this as well.  Right?

You will need to treat whichever you decide to go with as a business.  This will not happen overnight.  You will need to put in the time, as well as the hard work to make your business successful.  There is no shortage of jobs you can do by working online from your home.  You need to find the one that will work for you.  By doing some research, you can make sure it will fit whatever kind of schedule you have.

As a stay-at-home mom, you can earn more money than plenty of people who work outside the home. Of course, you have to put in the hard work to build a business and make it successful, but there is no shortage of legitimate work-at-home jobs for moms.

You can work full or part-time.  And often, making more money than those working outside the home.  Word of advice, do not let others tell you that it won’t work, or it’s a pipe dream.  Decide for yourself because when you make your decision, you’re also deciding to become your own boss today!!!

I would love to hear your story!  Let us know in the comments below, what didn’t work for you, and what is working for you.

  1. I tried to take surveys for a while, but that was a waste of time for me, too. They pay next to nothing and sometimes, I would take the survey only to be told after a while that I wasn’t qualified for that one.

I started my blog a year ago and I love working on it! I’m thinking about writing an e-book with some tips for new bloggers. It will probably be a small one so I won’t sell it. I’ll probably give it for free. But who knows? Maybe, it will be big enough to sell it! 🙂

    1. Hi Jenny,

Your ebook idea is great.  It’s away of getting emails.  You’re way ahead of me, I won’t be writing any ebooks anytime soon.  But the very best to you!

YES!  I kept getting that I was not qualified, and said forget it.

We’re going to make our blogs successful!!  Keep on rockin’ it and thank you for stopping by,
      =)   Laura

  2. Hello Laura Christine,

I think of myself more as a stay-at-home dad than a stay-at-home mom, and hope this isn’t a bad start! Yep, I think I can relate to your suggestions.

I know I can write and write well. But that’s not enough to be successful online. I think one has to be a business person too, and that’s really not my strong point.

I found your story inspiring, how you struggled here and there with website building. Glad you found something that works for you!

I had not thought about teaching or tutoring online. I find that intriguing! I’m going to do a bit of research about that and see where that could take me. Thanks for your neat ideas!

    Cheers, Phil

    1. Hi Phil,

You’re welcome.  And good luck with the teaching/tutoring.  Let us know how that goes for you in the comments.

I struggle with the business side od this.  But I am learning.  I think a lot of mines has to do with mindset as well.  Luckily that is something I can work.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know how things are going in any new areas you experiment in.  And, again, good luck!!
      =)   Laura

  3. I love how you mentioned both freelance writing and health and life coaching, because I’m getting back into fitness after a year off from the field (I mentioned this in another one of your posts so I apologize for repeating it here). Honestly, freelancing plus health and life coaching go hand in hand, and I also see personal training in this regard as well since it also has to do with health.

Better yet, you can even combine your freelancing with health and life coaching by offering freelance services to magazines and blogs that cover the health and life topic. You can even start your own blog in this field as well, giving you quite the 1-2-3 combo.

It’s all about knowing what you can do, what you’re capable of, and taking action.

    1. Hi, again Todd!!

You’re getting it….so many of these can go hand in hand, so to speak.  I love the way you think.  You’re definitely one to watch.

And as always, thanks for stopping by!

  4. I have been trying to do some freelance writing online for Fiverr but the competition is very high and due to my limited English it can be tricky. I have been trying to take good pictures and sell them with shutter stock as well. Personally if you take really good pictures and the pictures are what the market demand, it is an amazing passive income, the pay out might not be that great but it does accumulate. Currently, I have been pursuing blogging and also making youtube videos to lead potential traffic to my posts. Hopefully, soon I can earn some affiliate commissions and be able to work from home. If you live in the big city, you can join focus group as well. Some of them don’t require you to go to the place. They will call you and have the phone interview and they will send you the money through paypal. The pay is better than surveys but the screening process is brutal, you have to fit the right demographic for focus group. I have seen so many people make a lot of money from it. Thank you for sharing the list of what a stay at home mom can do.

    1. Hi,

And thank you for all your opinions/suggestions.  A lot of online jobs can be pretty competitive.  I prefer my blogging and affiliate marketing.  At least for now.

      Thanks for stopping by
      =)   Laura
